Brooklyn’s Ground Floor Gallery presents Women at Work

Friday, May 4th, 2018

Ground Floor Gallery’“Women at Work” features three Brooklyn-based woman artists – Natalie Baxter, Paola Citterio, and Leslie Tucker – whose work questions traditionally masculine or feminine labor roles and materials by reinterpreting family histories, consumer culture and politics.

Natalie Baxter employs sewing and quilting techniques from her grandmother to create soft sculptures exploring Americana and the political zeitgeist; Paola Citterio creates pieces blending the traditional craftwork she learned from the women in her childhood home (knitting, sewing, felting and baking) with found objects from city streets; and Leslie Tucker translates her passion for satire, consumer culture, and decoding human nature into suggestive digital collages layered with meaning.

The exhibition is on-going with a closing reception on May 13th 2 – 4pm.

DegreeArt.com presents ‘Post Digital?’ an exhibition which seeks to explore the intersection at which our physical and virtual realities collide. Post Digital? aims to question the processes of creating art in a digital age and crucially, its very definition. Post-Digital (also known as Post-Internet) is at the heart of numerous, contemporary discussions, articles, conferences, exhibitions and publications. These discourses are exposing the uncertainties, misunderstanding and riddles surrounding the past, present and future of our relationship with the digital age. Are we at the point in time that marks the end of the Digital era or does it point to a transformation in the way we understand its role in art and our wider society.
