JoAnne Artman Gallery presents – Urban Flora

Tuesday, May 15th, 2018

Life and growth often find a home in the unlikeliest places. JoAnne Artman Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition that juxtaposes urban grit with the delicacy of flora, highlighting the often surprising congruities in the beauty of both. Much of the motifs in art and design are borrowed from the natural world in which the processes of regeneration, life and decay are in constant flux and motion. An especially important part of this framework is the flora, or the particular plants of a region, habitat or geographical area which are as diverse, unique and localized as the constitution and customs of any urban population.  Artists Penelope Gottlieb, Anna Kincaide, and Greg Miller are artists whose work addresses this intersection between the beauty of nature and the ethos of urbanity.

Bloom: Charlotte Hardy and Sally Stafford at the Sarah Wiseman Gallery (4 – 25 Feb)

Thursday, February 16th, 2017

Sarah Wiseman Gallery is pleased to announce ‘Bloom’ with Charlotte Hardy and Sally Stafford, a joyous, beautiful exhibition exploring colour and pattern interpreting floral forms.

Painter and illustrator Charlotte Hardy finds inspiration in decoration and pattern found in the everyday. Exploring arrangements of pleasing design such as flowers in vases, a still life of a dining table or a shop window display, Charlotte’s work is both loosely expressive and closely observed. Her brushwork is often simple and straightforward but also contain studies of wallpaper design, textile pattern or decoration of ceramics. Take a look at available works here.

Sally Stafford is well known for her expressive landscape painting, using mixed media. Colours and textures develop through application of multiple layers of paint, ink, wax and pigment. There is an element of impressionism in her painting in the way she approaches her work, the intuitive feel of her brushwork, however the mix of different media keeps it resolutely contemporary. View works included in the exhibition here and shown below is Matriarch (courtesy of the artist and Sarah Wiseman Gallery).
