ODETTA is pleased to present Linda Cunningham: Whose Land, Whose God?

Wednesday, July 5th, 2017

ODETTA is pleased to present their third summer solo exhibition of a single monumental work of art.

Linda Cunningham: Whose Land, Whose God? will transform the gallery space with potent found remnants taken from the  Berlin Wall in 1989, stored since that time, and finally exhibited for the first time here in NYC. These artifacts will be integrated into a room-sized installation in Cunningham’s signature style with shredded drywall, photo transfers, a huge wood door, texts, and bronze gestural strokes cast from recycled military weapons.

Supporting the concepts raised in Linda’s work are works on paper by Jeanne Heifetz and Glendalys Medina in ODETTA’s curated flat files.

The show runs July 7- Aug 20, 2017.
Artist’s Reception, Thursday, July 13, 6-8 pm
Artist’s Talk, Sunday August 6, 3:00 pm

Robin Glassman’s Lifelines at the Ivy Brown Gallery

Tuesday, June 6th, 2017

Ivy Brown Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition by Robin Glassman. Inspired and influenced by her illness, travels, and an obsession with collecting, her playful and, sometimes, spiritual art pieces evolve organically through spontaneous mark making and meditation.  Glassman’s works are layered and tactile, eclectic and exploratory, metaphoric and poetic.  By combining biomorphic shapes with intricate details, she plays with the blurry lines that divide the natural world from the more abstract and surreal one.

‘My recent body of work is directly connected to cardiopulmonary issues, based on my own extensive hospitalization, and its aftermath. As resource material for this series, I studied images and diagrams of upper body physiology.  By exploring how our organs and skeletal system coexist in the same space, I developed a better understanding of the delicate balance necessary for wellness.  Some of the pieces were made while in the hospital. I experienced the pain in bright primary colors.  Striking the page with the brush, jabbing into it and scratching out helped ease my discomfort.  Sometimes I was so tired my hand just wandered across the page.” Robin Glassman

The exhibition runs from June 6th – June 27th. Opening reception on June 6th – 6:00 – 8:00
