Kathryn Markel Fine Arts presents Trine Bumiller’s Interference

Wednesday, January 18th, 2017
Pattern and Fragmentation, 2016

Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is pleased to present Interference, Trine Bumiller’s fifth solo show with the gallery through February 2017.

Trine Bumiller continues her investigations of landscape and memory with her latest body of work. Her paintings combine imagery of the organic world and of human construction, both as she observes them and through the altering lens of memory. Abstraction and hints of representation engage with one another in the field, paralleling the tension of the perceived and the imagined.

Humble Iterations: small scale works at Markel Fine Arts, until 23/Dec

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is pleased to present Humble Iterations, an ambitious group show of small-scale artwork. This show consists of gallery artists and a few guest artists who, while using a variety of sizes in their practice, also create small versions of their signature styles. Small, in this case, is loosely defined as paintings and works on paper that are under 20 inches at the largest dimension. In creating these, the artists pare down their visual vocabulary to the most important marks or motifs.

Artists included are as follows: Ky Anderson, Diane Ayott, Lisa Breslow (whose Summer Lights is shown above courtesy of Kathryn Markel), Mary Didoardo, Laura Fayer, Elizabeth Gilfilen, Jeffrey Cortland Jones, Sydney Licht, Sara MacCulloch, Don Martiny, Martina Nehrling (whose work The Devil You Know is shown below courtesy of Kathryn Markel), Marilla Palmer, Nancy Rubens, Debra Smith, Josette Urso, Annie Wildey, and Tamar Zinn. Kathryn Markel Fine Arts will exhibit at the inaugural Miami edition of Art on Paper (1-6/Dec) showing work by a selection of gallery artists at Booth K4.

Kathryn Markel began her eponymous gallery in 1976 with the belief that contemporary art can be beautiful as well as visually and intellectually rigorous, and that acquiring it should be a source of pleasure and self-discovery.  For almost 40 years, we have helped collectors find the art that speaks to them, and, therefore, exhibit a diverse group of artists united by hard-won craft, compelling intellectual framework, and a love of the art-making process. To find out more click here.

Art on Paper‘s inaugural Miami Beach edition will launch during this year’s Miami Art Week, bringing the acclaimed fair to the epicenter of the international arts community. Art on Paper NYC welcomed over 20,000 visitors in March of 2015 and saw strong sales to top collectors, quickly becoming a New York City favorite. Like its sister fair, Art on Paper Miami’s exhibiting galleries will feature sculpture, drawing, painting, and photography, all unified by the medium of paper.
