ODETTA is Moving from Bushwick to Chelsea

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

ODETTA Gallery after calling Bushwick home for many years is moving their gallery to Chelsea. Currently they are have exhibitions in both locations, one serving as a bridge to the other – collectively the exhibitions are called Femmes Fatales.

Bushwick:
Ann Chernow, dubbed the Queen of Noir, is also one of owner Ellen Hackl Fagen’s mentors. She is honored to bring the artist’s newest works to ODETTA for their final exhibition in the Bushwick gallery. ODETTA is also pleased to feature Susan Bee’s newest paintings and artist’s books as the flat file feature in the Bushwick gallery. The three paintings on the main wall of the studio are focused on mythical goddess figures in the act of smiting their transgressors and saving their people. The exhibition’s run is March 15 – April 14, 2019 with an opening reception Friday, March 15, 6-8 pm. There will also be an artist’s talk, Sunday, March 31, 3:00 pm

Chelsea:
Gelah Penn will install a single, monumental work in ODETTA’s new location in the 1st Dibs Gallery in the Terminal Markets in Chelsea. Like Chernow’s, Penn’s work is significantly informed by film noir. Her site-specific piece, Ebb Tide, embodies noir-esque  light and shadow, and female anxiety and resilience through layers of fabrics and plastics, both translucent and opaque. The exhibition runs from March 15 – April 11, 2019. Meet the artist reception on Friday, March 22, 4-6 pm and Wednesday, March 27, 12-2 pm.

Kurt Steger Pending – a Work in progress at ODETTA

Wednesday, March 1st, 2017

ODETTA is pleased to present a work in progress by gallery artist Kurt Steger. Following their successful year with his monumental project, Scribing the Void, Kurt became ODETTA’s first represented artist. As he begins to plan his second solo exhibition at ODETTA, they offered him the gallery during show change to explore new ideas and exhale for a moment. Pending is an ephemeral work that has the potential to become something more significant. This is a time to meet the artist and discuss these new ideas and materials as he ponders depicting mass and cause and effect relationships. ODETTA will be used as his temporary studio during Armory Arts Week.

Visiting hours are: Saturday March 4, 5-9 pm and Sunday March 5, 3-7 pm. Bushwick galleries will be staying open late
