ODETTA presents Mesmerize – a group show

Sunday, September 2nd, 2018
Color is a catalyst. Emotion, communication, and pleasure are but a few of the ways we map human characteristics onto color. Mesmerize is about the escape into color through playful, yet deeply considered means. ODETTA is pleased to offer the second of four color-focused exhibitions for 2018. The exhibition brings together four artists, Elizabeth Gourlay, Stephen Maine, Carol Salmanson, Audrey Stone whose paintings and LED light installations are both formally constructed and experimental. Color is their teacher. Communicating to us on multiple levels, the gallery invites you to enjoy their newest works, fresh out of the studio.
ODETTA’s featured flat file artists for this exhibition are Nancy Baker, Rob de Oude, Audrey Stone

The show runs from September 7th – 30th. The opening reception is on Friday September 7th 6 – 8pm.

Nancy Baker’s No Regrets at ODETTA Gallery

Tuesday, March 6th, 2018

ODETTA is pleased to have artist Nancy Baker return to the gallery with No Regrets, a solo exhibition of new site specific work. For the exhibit Baker seizes upon current political anxiety that informs her series of works which employ text from the US Constitution, in addition to mathematical constructs such as Pi, and the Golden Section. Intermixed within her constructions are additional phrases which seek to undermine the authority of No Regrets, such as Fewer Answers, No Illusions, Some Ideas, and Little Idea How. In claiming a definitive confidence, there is for Baker, consequences of hubris which reflect a truly complex lifetime of shifting doubts.

ODETTA’s Flat Files are curated to tie in with every exhibition. Meg Atkinson, Richard Bottwin, Dana Kane, and Becca Lowry have created new works that bring viewers into a more intimate encounter with their work. Opening each drawer in the cabinet presents interactive site-specific installations on a micro-scale that offer an element of surprise with the breadth of dimensionality and innovation.  Richard Bottwin’s Bauhaus inspired wood constructions will be the Flat File Feature on the main wall in the studio.

Exhibit is ongoing until April 8th. There will be an Artist’s Talk on March 25th at 3:00pm.
