Monday, July 10th, 2017

In July, Sarah Wiseman Gallery will be filled to the brim with contemporary art exploring coastal landscape, nature and summer city-scapes. For many of us, the summer months are a time to escape, re-charge and refresh, but for some artists this can be a key time to find new inspiration and ideas. The exhibition will feature exciting new work by Clare Bonnet, Christopher Farrell, Peter Kettle, Dan Parry Jones, Fletcher Prentice and Annabelle Shelton whose ‘Beach Tide’ is show above courtesy of the artist and Sarah Wiseman Gallery. For more information click here.

Sarah Wiseman Gallery presents Vicky Oldfield in June

Thursday, May 25th, 2017

Vicky Oldfield will be exhibiting a selection of striking collagraph prints of her distinctive floral forms at Sarah Wiseman Gallery in June. Vicky (whose work is shown here courtesy of the artist and Studio Sixty Six) is a printmaker inspired by collections of found objects and natural forms. In particular, she is fascinated with the structure and design found in flowers, often drawing the same plant many times over.

In her forthcoming solo exhibition, visitors can expect to see a new collection of large scale works on paper which show her personal interpretations of British flowers blown up to majestic proportions. The strength of her line and highly attuned sense of detail lends itself well to this format.

Peter Kettle’s new exhibition ‘On Meadow and River’ at the Sarah Wiseman Gallery

Monday, January 23rd, 2017

Sarah Wiseman Gallery presents brand new work by acclaimed young landscape painter Peter Kettle in a new exhibition ‘On Meadow and River’.

.
Inspired by the varied and rugged landscape of the British countryside, Peter Kettle is a young painter best known for his expressive, textured landscapes, most notably of his native Wales.

For this exhibition at Sarah Wiseman Gallery, he finds inspiration in the wide expanses and gentle hills of Oxfordshire. Beginning with a walk along the Glyme Valley Way from Chipping Norton to Woodstock, Peter will make a journey through the county, exploring the history and ancient lore of the land, taking in locations like Christchurch Meadow and Oxford itself. Attracted by the city’s natural location, Peter’s work lends itself well to its cobbled streets and verdant surroundings.  Click here to read more.

Clare Bonnet, whose painting ‘Scarlet Peace’ is shown here courtesy of the artist and Sarah Wiseman Gallery, is a Cornwall based artist who mixes figurative painting with abstract mark-making. This combination of techniques suggests a tension, perhaps suggestive of movement, that ‘something has happened or is about to happen’. The women in her paintings are very much a part of the creative process; she is inspired by her friends, drawing on shared female experience. Conversation between herself and her subjects is a vital starting point of each painting, giving a resonance and vibrancy.

New works by Kate Montgomery at Sarah Wiseman Gallery, Oxford

Tuesday, November 15th, 2016

Oxford-based Sarah Wiseman Gallery have received a small collection of Kate Montgomery‘s paintings including ‘Down to the Sea’ shown here courtesy of the artist and Sarah Wiseman Gallery. They have a subtle sense of narrative, dream-like and haunting, influenced by the lives of her two daughters. Domesticity is a theme that runs strongly through her work, depicting patterns and textiles, kitchens and nurseries, gardens and beaches. We glimpse children’s games and quiet conversations taking place. Take a closer look at the collection here.
