JoAnne Artman Gallery, Presents:
“THE NEW FIGURATIVE” Featuring America Martin

Wednesday, January 31st, 2018

America Martin’s compositions of poetic juxtapositions conjure a story, with the figure as a central focal point for much of the framework. Strikingly bold, the expressive lines of Martin’s work are an assimilation of light, color, movement and form with a unique emphasis on the narrative. The imagery is familiar and transportive, steeped in personal mythology and deeply allegorical. JoAnne Artman Gallery is pleased to present a new body of work rooted in Martin’s unique approach in exploring the human form and its context.

The exhibition is the Gallery’s Winter/Spring Show. The artist’s reception is on February 8th from 6pm – 8pm.

Driven to Abstraction at Susan Eley Fine Art

Tuesday, February 28th, 2017

Susan Eley Fine Art is pleased to announce the opening of Driven To Abstraction, an all-women exhibition featuring paintings and works on paper by Caroline Blum (Window on Haight Street 2017 above),  Lori Ellison, Dana James, Melanie Parke and Lizzie Scott. The exhibition has been guest curated by Caroline Blum, a New York based abstract artist, and her husband David Reisman, a writer with Frieze Magazine.

The idea took shape for Caroline after reading recent criticism of mainstream museums and galleries for exhibiting more men than women. In response, Caroline chose to make a curatorial statement and feature five strong women painters. Making connections through social media and in galleries, Caroline identified a group of artists, leaders and innovators in contemporary abstraction, who would shine both individually and as a group.

Driven to Abstraction will be on view March 1 – April 13, 2017

OPENING RECEPTION: Wednesday, March 1, 6-8pm

Monday, August 8th, 2016

Kathryn Markel Fine Arts Gallery in Chelsea, is pleased to share their summer 2016 invitational show. The artists’ work comprises mixed media paintings, collage, and pieced fabric on stretchers. The exhibition runs from August 4th – September 3rd, 2016.

On exhibit at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts Gallery in Bridgehampton,  YOLANDA SANCHEZ  – Recent Works.  In ancient China, there was a tradition of the Three Perfections where a poet, a painter, and a calligrapher would collaborate to create one unique and harmonious piece of art. Yolanda Sanchez manages to incorporate all three disciplines herself into her work. Using color as a vehicle for experience heightened by gesture, composition, and texture, Sanchez’s paintings provide a poetic refuge from the day to day.  August 4th – August 21st, 2016
