Kathryn Markel Fine Arts presents Tamar Zinn-At the still point March 31st – May 7th

Tamar Zinn  At the still point Point 22, 2016

Kathryn Markel Fine Arts is pleased to present At the still point, a solo exhibition of new paintings by Tamar Zinn.

Opening Reception is on March 31st, 6:00 – 8:00PM.

The title of Zinn’s new series is taken from T.S. Eliot’s “Burnt Norton”.

“At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;

Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,

But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,

Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,

Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,

There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.”

Each of Tamar Zinn’s paintings has reached the culminating moment when the compositional tension both activates and crystalizes the space. The relationship between defined geometry and ambiguous space releases the interaction of the elements, allowing the dance to begin.

With no preconceived endpoint, Zinn begins by layering thinned oil paint onto aluminum panels. She scrapes and sands the surface, slowly revealing the underlayers, until an atmospheric field begins to coalesce. She then adds geometric elements, continuing to work back into the field, until a moment of clarity – the still point – reveals itself.

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016

Susan Eley Fine Art is delighted to announce the opening of SWIMMERS AND DANCERS: Carole Eisner’s Paintings from the 1980s and 1990s. The show will run from January 14th to February 25th with the opening reception on January 14th 6pm to 8pm. This is Eisner’s second solo exhibition of paintings at SEFA, following the exhibition Geometric Abstract Paintings held in the spring of 2013.

Carole Eisner has been active as both a painter and a sculptor since the 1960s. After receiving a BFA in painting from Syracuse University, Eisner worked as a designer for several fashion houses in New York City before turning to full time painting and sculpture. As she developed as an artist over the decades, there was a cross influence between her work in both sculpture and painting, as she moved through phases of abstraction and figuration. For more information visit Carole Eisner’s newly launched websites  for her painting and sculpture.
