Gender Bias and the Art World, a panel discussion at The Hospital Club taking place on April 7th will be moderated by Susan Mumford, Founder and CEO of AWAD, The Association of Women Art Dealers, and produced by Mashonda Tifrere, founder of Art LeadHER. The panel will discuss women in art and what it means to be a working female artist in today’s art market. It will also explore enduring gender bias in the viewing of art, and what women-only and gender-conscious initiatives can do to address it head on.

Women Artists to Watch tour with Susan Mumford

On October 2nd, AWAD Founder and CEO Susan Mumford will take participants on a private tour at The Affordable Art Fair. 

Join Susan Mumford, trans-Atlantic art world expert, entrepreneur, speaker, author and mentor, who founded both the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) and Be Smart About Art, for a talk on collecting with whistle-stop tour. Taking place prior to the fair opening for its final day, she’ll highlight six women artists from the same number of exhibiting galleries. Susan will be available to answer your questions about collecting and the art world in the event finalé, Q&A over coffee.

Program:

  • 9.45-10.00am: Arrivals (in reception).
  • 10.00-11.00am: Talk (collecting art from the insider’s view of the art world) and tour of the fair, highlighting 6 works at 6 galleries.
  • 11.00-11.20am: Q+A on the art world and collecting in the café

Press Release: LAPADA and AWAD Agreed to Waive Joining Fees in a Reciprocal Partnership

LAPADA the Association of Art & Antiques Dealers announces an agreement with the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) that sees them waive the joining fees for applicants who hold membership to the other.

Rebecca Davies, LAPADA Association CEO, comments: ‘attracting a wider representation of female dealers is something we support. AWAD shares LAPADA’s commitment to offering its members the skills and expertise to trade competitively within the international art market. We look forward to working together and encouraging collaborations between the two groups.’

This summer AWAD held a successful first Social in Canada at Vancouver’s truth and beauty gallery, kindly hosted by Peppa Martin who is the founder of the space and who has been a Member of AWAD since 2014. Susan Mumford, AWAD’s CEO and Founder was in attendance and the keynote speaker. Also attending the event was Lori Johns of Phylogeny Contemporary who is based out of Seattle, WA but exhibits around the country.

Aqua Art Miami and the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) Form Special Collaboration for 2016 Edition

Aqua Art Miami and the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) are pleased to announce our partnership for 2016.

Headquartered in London, AWAD is a non-profit trade network with three chapters: London, New York and Virtual. Providing a platform for meeting collaboratively-minded peers near and far, AWAD’s mission is to facilitate business between and for women art dealers.

With our collaboration, Aqua Art Miami 2016 will focus on ‘Women Gallerists’ by highlighting AWAD members within the fair, special projects curated by female gallerists as well as special programming and events listed below:

Friday, December 2, 2016 at Aqua Art Miami from 10:00am – 11:00am:
Aqua Art Miami will host a morning panel discussion addressing “Unconscious gender bias and the art world: What’s the reality for women art dealers, and what role do they have to play?” This conversation will be moderated by Susan Mumford, Founder and CEO of AWAD.

Friday, December 2, 2016 at Aqua Art Miami from 9:00pm – 11:00pm:
Aqua Art Miami will host AWAD’s annual gathering “Networking Cocktails on the Beach”. This private event will be an opportunity for Members and Friends of AWAD to mix and mingle in Aqua’s open courtyard.
