Young Masters: Unpacking Gender in the Contemporary Art World – A talk on July 2nd during the Mayfair Art Weekend

To coincide with the inaugural Young Masters Emerging Woman Art Prize a talk to celebrate and discuss gender issues around art has been organised during the Young Masters 2017 exhibition.

The panel discussion will be moderated by Susan Mumford, Founder, Association of Woman Art Dealers, and will include Jean Wainwright, Art Historian, Critic and Professor of Contemporary Art and Photography at the University for the Creative Arts, and Cynthia Corbett, Gallerist and Founder of The Young Masters Art Prize.

Young Masters: Talks includes discussions hosted by speakers from:  Be Smart About Art, offering specialist, advice and support for artists and industry professionals; and Artists’ Collecting Society, the premium collecting society for the administration of the Artist’s Resale Right (ARR). This series of talks will be accompanied by discussions led by Young Masters Art Prize Judges, including: Jean Wainwright, Art Historian, Critic and Professor of Contemporary Art and Photography at the University for the Creative Arts; and Melanie Gerlis, Art Market Columnist at the Financial Times and Editor-at-large at The Art Newspaper.

AWAD CEO and Founder to lead panel discussion at Art New York

AWAD is delighted to collaborate with Art New York for the 2017 fair edition with a panel discussion that addresses the intersection of art, women and tech. The conversation will not only look at who is already embracing tech, as seen in art and selling vehicles alike, but also the opportunities that digital innovation presents to women in the sector.

The discussion, Women Disrupting the Art World will be moderated by AWAD Founder & CEO, Susan Mumford. Join this interactive discussion between Susan, Colleen Marie Foley, Artist,
Alex Darby, from New Inc, and Kelani Nichole,  from Transfer Gallery. They’ll explore opportunities and challenges presented by technology, all the while uncovering how women are embracing digital to disrupt culture.

The panel will be held on Sat. May 6th 2.00pm – 2.45pm at Art New York.

Gender Bias and the Art World, a panel discussion at The Hospital Club taking place on April 7th will be moderated by Susan Mumford, Founder and CEO of AWAD, The Association of Women Art Dealers, and produced by Mashonda Tifrere, founder of Art LeadHER. The panel will discuss women in art and what it means to be a working female artist in today’s art market. It will also explore enduring gender bias in the viewing of art, and what women-only and gender-conscious initiatives can do to address it head on.

Women Artists to Watch tour with Susan Mumford

On October 2nd, AWAD Founder and CEO Susan Mumford will take participants on a private tour at The Affordable Art Fair. 

Join Susan Mumford, trans-Atlantic art world expert, entrepreneur, speaker, author and mentor, who founded both the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) and Be Smart About Art, for a talk on collecting with whistle-stop tour. Taking place prior to the fair opening for its final day, she’ll highlight six women artists from the same number of exhibiting galleries. Susan will be available to answer your questions about collecting and the art world in the event finalé, Q&A over coffee.

Program:

  • 9.45-10.00am: Arrivals (in reception).
  • 10.00-11.00am: Talk (collecting art from the insider’s view of the art world) and tour of the fair, highlighting 6 works at 6 galleries.
  • 11.00-11.20am: Q+A on the art world and collecting in the café

Press Release: LAPADA and AWAD Agreed to Waive Joining Fees in a Reciprocal Partnership

LAPADA the Association of Art & Antiques Dealers announces an agreement with the Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) that sees them waive the joining fees for applicants who hold membership to the other.
