Our Members – Catherine Loewe

Catherine Loewe’s career spans over 20 years in the art market as a curator and advisor. After gaining a degree in Art History from the University of East Anglia, Catherine worked at Christie’s and at leading contemporary art galleries, Waddington Galleries, The Marlborough Gallery and Anthony d’Offay Gallery where she was assigned to major international artists including Jeff Koons, Gerhard Richter, Bill Viola, Ellsworth Kelly, Anselm Kiefer, Howard Hodgkin and Tastuo Miyajima. Catherine subsequently worked for leading art publishers Flash Art International and as business development director for Louise Blouin Media, whose portfolio includes Art+Auction, Modern Painters and digital platform Artinfo.com where she was responsible for media partnerships with Sotheby’s, London Art Week, Masterpiece and Frieze fairs, as well as a number of luxury and corporate brands.

In 2008 Catherine established Loewe Contemporary, an innovative curatorial platform producing contemporary art projects. These ranged from solo installations to survey shows in a variety of contexts including festivals, galleries, museums, fairs, private homes and corporate headquarters. Clients have included Coopers & Lybrand, the Marco Polo Building, Aspen Re, St James Hotel & Club, Concrete & Glass Festival in Hoxton, Stitch Charity auction at The Dairy in Bloomsbury, Richard Harris Collection at the Wellcome, The Saatchi Gallery and Griffin Gallery in Notting Hill. Since 2016 Catherine has been running a series of studio visits for collectors to gain direct insight into artists’ practices and view work in progress.

Catherine has a proven track record of identifying British artists at very early stages in their careers including Fiona Rae, Gavin Turk, Damien Hirst, Glenn Brown, Peter Doig, Rachel Whiteread and Gary Hume. She has advised private and corporate collectors on art acquisitions by emerging to established international artists. Catherine has served on the Tate Gallery New Patrons Acquisitions Committee.
