Rebecca Lax established Lax & Associates in 2013. This was a strategic business move as it consolidated a career of thirty years in the contemporary art business working for others. A graduate from Bennington College, majoring in painting and printmaking, her first job in the art world was working for Leo Castelli gallery at 420 West Broadway. Other sales and senior level administrative positions followed; Ed Thorp Gallery/Soho, Viart Corporation/NYC (as Goldman Sachs Associate), Knoedler Gallery (Assistant to the Director, under Rubin), Galerie Lelong/NYC (Assistant Director), LeRoy Neiman Center for Print Studies, Columbia University/NYC (Director of Finance/Sales) and artnet auctions/NYC (Senior Print Specialist).
Rebecca has significant print curatorial experience having worked for several major print shops in NYC, Pace Prints for Richard Solomon and Solo Press with masterprinter Judith Solodkin and the paper making studio Dieu Donne papermill under Sue Gosin, Founder/Kathleen Flynn, Director. Her hands-on experience of print production and the management of the budgetary side of print publishing has further enhanced her overall knowledge of the contemporary print market. Her consultant projects are predominantly brokering for private collectors and sourcing print inventory and uniques for all the major auction house’s prints departments in NYC and London: Sothebys, Christies, Phillips de Pury and the online auction sites of artnet and Auctionata.
Lax & Associates specializes in prints by mid career to blue chip contemporary artists that are extraordinary in the technical aspects of fabrication and conceptually engaging in terms of the artist’s oeuvre.
