Wendy was born and educated in Australia and she has had a great love and fascination for art from an early age. She became a student at Wollongong Art School, NSW and subsequently moved to England in the 1970′s. From that time, Wendy has travelled and visited most major European city’s (something akin to the “Grand Tour”) enjoying the art, sculpture and archaeology. Wendy is a member of the National Portrait Gallery, London and a founding director of Garret and Hurst Sculpture a family-run company that specialises in 19th century sculpture from France.
Garret and Hurst Sculpture are based in Sussex and exhibit at major Fine Art and Antiques fairs throughout the UK, including the LAPADA and London Olympia fairs.
In their own words: ‘We pride ourselves on reflecting the art of 19th sculpture in our acquisition of signed figurative and animalier pieces of the highest quality by the master sculptors who exhibited at the Paris Salons. The difference between high quality 19th century casts and those later casts and imitations, often of poorer quality, that make up 20th century production make it important to discriminate between the two. This is the role that Garret & Hurst fulfils and as leading specialists in the field we are working to promote the increasing knowledge of and interest in sculpture from this fascinating period, we are currently researching and preparing our second information catalogue for publication.’
