We’re pleased to announce that AWAD’s partner, ArtAML has officially achieved Active Membership of the Gallery Climate Coalition – an important milestone in its commitment to sustainability and climate-conscious practices in the art world.
The Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) is an international organisation that helps art businesses reduce their environmental impact. Active Membership means that ArtAML has met specific criteria, including calculating its carbon footprint, setting tangible reduction targets and demonstrating consistent progress toward sustainability. By achieving this status, ArtAML is aligning its practices with a coalition of prominent galleries, institutions and artists that recognise the importance of environmental stewardship in the arts sector. You can see a full list of GCC’s Active members here.
Supporting the GCC underscores the responsibility that all players in the art world share in tackling the climate crisis – from how we ship artworks to how we manage energy consumption and materials. The GCC provides best practice guidelines and case studies which show how commercial galleries have already been able to cut their emissions significantly. Another handy resource is the PACT website (Partners for Arts Climate Targets), which brings together cultural sector organisations working on climate change. We encourage you to explore GCC and PACT’s offerings, whether you’re just curious about starting your climate journey or deep into reducing your environmental impact.
Looking ahead, Climate Week NYC (September 21–28, 2025) will serve as a platform for climate leaders, industry professionals and the global community to exchange ideas, accelerate solutions and showcase innovation. Events like this help reinforce the urgency of transforming every sector – including the arts.
At AWAD, we’re proud to support this effort. We believe that sustainability isn’t just an ideal – it’s a responsibility, and we’re committed to doing our part. Find out how your gallery could be taking steps toward a more sustainable future by visiting Gallery Climate Coalition (or follow at @galleryclimatecoalition). In the meantime, keep up-to-date with anti-money laundering regulations via the Knowledge base and blog on ArtAML’s website.
