Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD)

The Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) est. 2009 is an international non-profit organisation that facilitates business and collaborations between women and women-identifying art dealers. The network has three chapters: UK, NY Tri-State and Global.

Members have regular opportunities to meet, network, explore shows and collections, upskill with professional development and more. Furthermore, all members adhere to professional standards with the AWAD Code of Conduct. Members work together in many ways, including business deals, gallery and pop-up exhibitions, art fairs, sharing of shipping costs to art fairs – and the list goes on. Role overview

This independent contractor position is an opportunity to be part of an international network of dynamic, forward-thinking and collaborative art business owners worldwide. The Membership & Partnership Manager is responsible for the development and management of Members, Partners and Friends of AWAD.

The individual works alongside the Membership Engagement Manager and is part of a collaborative team that ‘conquers and divides’. The small team punches above its weight and effectively delegates tasks in regular online team meetings. 

The individual directly reports to the AWAD CEO, who is also primarily based in the UK. 

Key Qualities of the Successful Candidate

Self-starter with ability to work under minimum supervision, able to prioritise, proactive and positive attitude to work, good organisational skills, great interpersonal communication skills, acute attention to detail, pleasant telephone / video call manner. 

Being comfortable and confident with the day-to-day use of technology platforms is key to the role, for example the following or equivalent thereof:
Slack, Google Suite (Drive, forms, sheets, calendar, email), WordPress, Social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & Twitter), CRM (for 1:1 email correspondence and management of the sales funnel, noting that AWAD employs Hubspot), Eventbrite, Zoom and Payment processors (such as Stripe, GoCardless). 

Other requirements

  • Hours of work: Aside from occasional events and team / chapter co-chair meetings, the role has flexible hours
  • Place of work: Except for occasional AWAD events, the coordinator will need to secure their own work space
  • Equipment:  Needs own laptop and a work space (remote working, for example from home)

Time-keeping & Invoicing

The individual will be responsible to keep accurate record of the hours worked, invoicing AWAD on a monthly basis. Payment will be made by the organisation’s HQ in London, UK. As this is a freelance position, the coordinator will be fully responsible for their taxes and any other necessary filings. 

General Description of Tasks

Note the list below is not comprehensive and the London Chapter Coordinator may be asked to fulfil other tasks to meet the requirements of the position.


  • Respond and follow-up new enquiries
  • Chase up incomplete applications, for example references 
  • Review (including the initial vetting of) applications and send to the respective committee for review. Follow-up committee members as required
  • Manage prospective / new subscriptions and renewals via the CRM database, Hubspot (sales funnel, properties)
  • Put in place agreements with partners
  • Manage agreed partnership reviews, putting in place meetings between the partner and AWAD CEO / other representatives
  • Trouble-shoot applications with the CEO and fellow AWAD team members
  • Attend meetings with prospective partners / members / friends as required 
  • Assist members and partners with the creation and update of their public-facing profiles


  • Liaise with the Finance Manager on subscriptions (new and renewing alike) 
  • Update Hubspot so that the Finance Manager is able to update records in the book-keeping system 
  • Meet with the Finance Team once monthly  

Marketing and communications

  • Communicate with the Digital Marketing Manager to programme: AWAD events (#AWADinDiscussion, #AWADvisits, etc); regular posts for partners as agreed; and other as required 

While the Graphic Designer and Digital Marketing roles are under development, additional responsibilities might be required: 

  • Create designs for social media, email marketing, event banners, etc (noting brand consistency)
  • Develop and send social media posts and email marketing campaigns
  • Upload #AWADinDiscussion replays to YouTube and add to Members’ Area of website 


  • Work with the Membership Engagement Manager on:
    • the provision of complimentary tickets to industry events for members, friends and partners; 
    • provision of comp access to speakers’ guests to online and offline events; 
    • engagement with speakers and other involved parties ahead of AWAD events; 
    • communicating with members, friends and partners about events, opportunities and replays; 
    • AWAD events (online includes #AWADinDiscussion and chapter / partner specific webinars, and offline includes tours, events, networking occasions, panel discussions and more)
