The Association of Women Art Dealers is once again delighted to be a cultural partner with Art on Paper New York. During September 2023’s Armory Art Week, the fair returns to downtown Manhattan’s Pier 36 with 100 galleries featuring top modern and contemporary paper-based art. The fair’s ninth edition will showcase unique and powerful projects curated by Artistic Director Nato Thompson, with a focus on can’t-miss performances highlighting the creative potential of paper. The fair runs from September 7th – 10th, 2023.
Art on Paper is a popular fair for our members. This year four member galleries representing both our global and Tristate NYC chapters will be participating. Two exhibitors in particular are noted by the fair – Accola Griefen who is showcasing the works of two significant American women artists: Judy Pfaff and Barbara Zucker, an originator of the Feminist Art Movement and founder of the first all-women’s gallery in the U.S. This east coast based gallery is also showing Jaida Grey Eagle, Erica Lord, and Mikayla Patton.
The other gallery J. Rinehart Gallery is from Seattle, Washington. They are exhibiting the remarkable printmaking talents of Kelda Martensen and Kim Van Someren, each recognized as innovators in their field. The gallery will also feature innovations in printmaking, drawing, painting, and embroidered paper ephemera by Sue Dainelson, Anne Hirondelle, Shaun Kardinal, Kimberly Trowbridge, and Kippi Leonard.
Please also visit Garvey | Simon from San Anselmo, CA and New York City. The gallery is bringing Daisy Craddock, Margot Glass, Lisa Lebofsky, Sandy Litchfield and Idelle Weber. Particularly of interest are David Morrison’s glorious new colored pencil drawings Morrison’s hyperrealist depictions of magnolia blossoms celebrate nature’s intricacies. Equal parts scientific and poetic, these floral still lifes take on a preternatural quality, blurring the boundary between realism and fantasy with his signature trompe l’oeil presentation. These sumptuous drawings will be prominently featured at the Art on Paper fair.
Rounding out the quartet of AWAD galleries Kathryn Markel Fine Arts from Bridgehampton NY and New York, NY. They will feature the following artists working in many media – Steven Baris, Nancy Cohen, Daniel Brice, Joanne Freeman, Sarah Irvin, Marilla Palmer, and Conny Goelz Schmit.
