The Association of Women Art Dealers (AWAD) is pleased to announce that it has joined the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC). We are proud to support the GCC as part of the international community of arts organisations working to reduce our sector’s environmental impacts.
AWAD has appointed a Green Team composed of our CEO and founder, Susan Mumford, and our Membership & Partnership Manager, Diana Wilkins. They will lead the AWAD team’s efforts to reduce AWAD’s contribution to climate change, to minimise our use of materials and to cut waste. We have also published our Environmental Statement and made a voluntary donation to support the GCC’s campaign.
Since AWAD strongly believes in the power of partnership to bring positive change, we will support members’ efforts to reduce their environmental footprint by providing access to practical advice through AWAD’s website and programme of talks and events. We will also encourage our members to consider joining the Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC) and to review its Best Practice Guidance and list of Effective Actions.
Our commercial and cultural partners also have a valuable part to play, and we will work with them to highlight better ways of doing business. Indeed, some are already taking action to tackle the climate crisis, for example, Convelio provides options for sustainable shipping and Hallett Independent (an Active Member of GCC) gives advice on insuring against climate-related risks.
For the future, we will work towards GCC’s Active Membership status by calculating our carbon emissions and developing an action plan to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
We acknowledge the urgency of the climate crisis and the art world’s role within it. By acting together, we can make a more powerful contribution to change.
