AWAD is pleased to welcome Elise Arnoult as a new Global Chapter Member. Elise is our first member to based in Houston, TX. She began her business, Arnoult Fine Art Consulting, in 2010.
As is our practice with new members, we asked Elise to share some of her background and a bit about her business.
What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?
In the past, I’ve worked in gallery, museum, and auction settings. I’ve also done some curatorial projects. I’m now an independent Consultant/Advisor and a Certified Appraiser, specializing in American and European Modern, Postwar and Contemporary works. I enjoy the freedom of being able to offer my clients quality works from any source, anywhere, and providing personal service for each client. Being independent has helped me grow as a well-rounded professional.
What does your business offer, in terms of goods and services?
I focus on private collectors, helping them with acquisitions, divestments, or simply advising on pieces being considered for purchase or for sale. I also provide fine art appraisals.
What excites you about having joined the Association of Women Art Dealers?
As an independent, single-member business, I’m excited to have a community where I can learn from others’ experiences, share mine, explore ideas, or bounce ideas around.
What brings you joy in your work?
I absolutely love “the hunt” of sourcing just the right piece for a client. I enjoy being a matchmaker between works and collectors, and knowing that I have a hand in that (hopefully) long-term relationship. I also love the fact that I’m constantly looking at new things, and learning about artists and their works on a daily basis.
If you were a work of art, what piece would you be (and why?!)?
A large-scale Giacometti striding man. Perhaps because I’m short? Otherwise, Sargent’s “Madam X”. I think she’s fabulous.
