Arredon Art is delighted to present FEELING BLUE, selected works by French-Canadian artist André Desjardins.
The title of this exhibition “Feeling Blue” is meant to describe the mood of artist since the start of the 2020 global pandemic. Although “Feeling Blue” is often used to communicate a depressed state of being, the color blue has positive connotations. Blue is the color of the sky and sea. Blue is often associated with faith, truth, and heaven. For color experts, blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body by slowing human metabolism and producing a calming effect.
André Desjardins identifies with the color blue and has selected the works in this exhibition to share not a down state but an optimistic mood for the future. Through this exhibition, Desjardins attempts to provide a balance between the positive and negative forces in our current state. A balance between anxiety, dissolution, peace, and fulfillment.
“The serenity in which I infused these paintings is my way of denouncing the negativity, chaos, and heartache that we experience in our lives. This year has ushered in a pandemic, social unrest, and economic calamity, I offer a pause from it all. My artistic work can be considered as a celebration of slowness, of the sweetness of life, of the simple pleasure of being here, alive, of existing.” – André Desjardins
Using charcoal, oils and acrylic paints, Desjardins features faces. The heavily textured backgrounds, loose lines and generous use of color direct the viewer away from the physical reality of the subject and into a contemplation of the emotion portrayed.
FEELING BLUE will be on exhibit through October 27th at Arredon Art in collaboration with EC Gallery, located at 212 S Cedros Ave #104, Solana Beach, CA 92075. Showings by appointment only. Paintings will also be available for viewing via our online gallery.
