Incollect magazine has released a special issue highlighting the rise of women art dealers from the 1920s to the present day. Starting with pioneers such as the influential Peggy Guggenheim, it describes how women art dealers have been at the cutting edge in supporting new styles and emerging artists (Incollect Issue 9, Women Art Dealers on the Rise, p.70 onwards)
The magazine also emphasises the multi-centred nature of the art market, by interviewing women art dealers across the US, such as Ronni Anderson of Anderson Contemporary, and others further afield. As an example, AWAD Member, Margaret Campbell-Ryder of Red Hill Gallery operates from Brisbane, Australia, and says “We’re committed to elevating our artists’ profiles nationally and internationally and we’re proud to bring Australian art to the global stage.” In this global environment, the article highlights the value of international networks such as AWAD to advance the role of women art dealers.
