16 Nicholson Streeet Gallery is pleased to present ‘Needs and Freedoms’ exhibiting the work of Fiona McGurk and Moira Salt. The exhibition is ongoing through March 24, 2022.
Our knowledge of the world is informed by our history. Skewed data sets distort perceptions and opinions, and corrupt predictions for the future. Bias is encoded in archives and in prognostics. However, we can attempt to redress gaps and omissions by turning them into catalysts for care, time-travel, speculation, or even accountability.
Curated by Aga Paulina Młyńczak, ‘Needs and Freedoms’ explores the notion of bias which is encoded in archives and predictions as being a catalyst for care and personal accountability. Through different artistic approaches, McGurk and Salt take historical omissions as an opportunity to reach through time and space, tease the veil of normalisation, speculate and imagine alternative worlds.
The exhibition features performance, sculpture, sound and video works by Salt as well as mixed media installations, prints and moving images by McGurk. The gallery will also present a companion publication ‘Reparative Trespassing’ launching Thurs, March 24th with a film screening and panel discussion.
