For this Summer Spotlight, AWAD is highlighting not one but two Members! Read on to learn more about business partners Norma Krieger and Susan Davis-Eley, who came together to found KRIEGER | ELEY ART through AWAD’s New York/Tri-State Chapter. They tells us about their business and art world journey, as well as their favorite time in the New York art calendar and a ceramicist they have their eye on.
What is the name of your business, where are you located and when did you start?
KRIEGER | ELEY ART is a New York–based art consultancy founded in 2018, specializing in contemporary art, with a focus on acquisitions and commissions.
What is your professional background?
We are curators with over 30 years of combined curatorial experience.
What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?
The driving force was the exhilaration of representing contemporary artists and using the power of world-class art and immersive experiences to transform spaces into inspiring, distinctive environments.
What does your business offer, in terms of goods and services?
We specialize in art acquisitions and commissions, with a focus on fine art through an interdisciplinary lens. We produce site-specific contemporary exhibitions and installations, immersive exceptional experiences and maintain an online gallery of curated works.
What is your favourite part about being a Member of AWAD?
AWAD is a dynamic international organization dedicated to supporting and connecting women and women-identifying art dealers. We value being part of a vibrant global network, engaging in weekly discussions, and building meaningful connections across the art market.
What was a recent highlight for you in your work?
A recent highlight was attending NYC Art Week art fairs, particularly Frieze New York 2026 at The Shed. As a leading international contemporary art fair, it offered a valuable opportunity to build new global gallery relationships and expand our network of artists and partners.
If you could own any work of art, what would it be?
A work by Akinsanya Kambon, a ceramic sculptor represented by Ortuzar in New York
What would you recommend to any art-lovers visiting your city?
We would recommend New York Art Week, typically in mid-May, to any art lover visiting the city in the spring. It brings together major fairs like Frieze New York at The Shed and TEFAF, New York at the Park Avenue Armory, alongside NADA, Independent, gallery openings across Manhattan, and auction previews at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips. The energy is unmatched—vivid spaces, serious dialogue, and the kind of discoveries that make the city feel like the center of the art world.
Any fun summer plans, art-related or otherwise?
We are considering the upstate Hudson River in the Hudson Valley – a great location to see outdoor sculptures and maybe enjoy a Lake George home owned by a colleague.
