AWAD is pleased to welcome Sara Mckee of Life: Full Colour to the AWAD’s London chapter. As is our practice with new members, we asked Sara a few questions about her background and art business.
What is the name of your business, where are you located and when did you start?
Our gallery, Life: Full Colour opened in 2018. We are located in Caernarfon, North Wales UK.
What is your professional background?
I am a strategist and commercial marketer with a degree in History of Art. I later studied at Christie’s on Art in Business.
What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?
I ran a management consulting business in the 1990s and since have subsequently spent most of my time launching start-ups and transforming operations for blue-chip corporate organisations in a range of sectors. Devising and opening my own enterprise was a logical next step.
What does your business offer in terms of goods and services?
We’re primarily a fine art gallery offering original paintings and sculpture by artists from Wales, UK plus Sweden and Australia. We also offer a conservation level framing service for our artists and general public. I own a five-storey Georgian building in Caernarfon where we offer atelier space for artists and a lounge to welcome clients to choose and commission art in a relaxed atmosphere. We undertake this as part of our ‘curatorial vision’ for high end collectors and project directors/designers from the property sector in the region.
What excites you about having joined the Association of Women Art Dealers?
I’m a lifelong learner, so keen to understand how others in the association operate and innovative practice in both the UK and the US.
What brings you joy in your work?
Building meaningful relationships with artists, collectors and colleagues to create strong partnerships with art at the centre.
A just for fun question: If you were a work of art what would you be and why?
Tamara de Lempicka – Self Portrait in Green Bugatti. I love fast cars and the style of the 1920s.
