Volta in New York

For VOLTA New York 2022, Susan Eley Fine Art is pleased to present a solo booth of new works by Rachelle Krieger. “These In-Between Days” is an ongoing series of mixed media paintings and works on paper by Krieger begun in 2019.

VOLTA will be on view May 18-22, at 548 West 22nd Street, Booth #315.

Krieger’s exuberant, often technicolor, pieces are primarily rendered in acrylic, flash and spray paint. She creates energetic abstractions of the natural world en plein air—drawing from art historical traditions of noted landscape painters, yet consistently pushing the genre forward via contemporary techniques. The artist activates her landscapes with sensuous applications of pigment. She layers bold hues and constructs rhizomatic forms—interrupted by intuitive streaks of spray paint, associated with urbanity and rapidity. Krieger finds greater truth abstracting the scenery before her using a non-naturalistic, ethereal color palette and interweaving constellations of undulating shapes. Her large-scale canvases will intermingle with her new ceramics—displayed on pedestals in front of related paintings—as well as her drawings, sketchbooks and writing, presented within an archival table display to mirror the dynamism within her 2-D works.
