AWAD is delighted to welcome new Associate Member Wendy Carlin of Hagan Fine Art to its Global chapter. Find out more about Wendy’s art world journey below.
What is the name of your business, where are you located and when did you start?
Hagan Fine Art, Charleston South Carolina, August 2024
What is your professional background?
I began my career at Sotheby’s and have worked in the arts for over 30 years-The Philip Johnson Glass House, Judd Foundation, and Heather Gaudio Fine Art.
What inspired you to take the leap and start your own business?
Having worked in many different types of arts organizations, I felt I had gained the experience needed to start out on my own. I had developed and matured my eye and vision for the art I wanted to present and all of the signs pointed me to this endeavor when I relocated to Charleston from the NYC area.
What does your business offer, in terms of goods and services?
Hagan Fine Art is dedicated to showcasing vibrant contemporary works for the Charleston community and beyond. The gallery represents local, national, and international artists whose practices explore color, texture, and abstraction through diverse mediums, techniques, and styles. We offer thirty different artists’ works as well as advisory services for any stage collector.
What excites you about having joined the Association of Women Art Dealers?
I am really excited to have a network of similar women to speak with and share experiences about our businesses. The resources will be so valuable to me as a fairly new gallery owner.
What brings you joy in your work?
It is always an amazing feeling when someone enters the gallery and has a look of wonder, excitement, joy and curiosity about the work we are presenting. It makes me thrilled for the artist and the opportunity to educate about their process and inspiration as well as so happy to know that the pieces I love are enjoyed by others!
A just for fun question: If you were a work of art what would you be and why?
If I were a work of art I think I would be a mixed media collage because it a piece created from so many different mediums, techniques, textures and styles but forms a coherent and compelling whole.
