The Artois Gallery is pleased to share their online exhibition Not Anywhere But Here featuring painter Fotini Christophillis, in her first solo show with the gallery. The exhibition is through October 15th, 2021.

“The works in this exhibition include a series of cityscape paintings, oil on canvas and linen, a floral series that include gouache, oil on linen paintings, and pastel drawings.

I was in NYC when the pandemic hit us. My family persuaded me to return and spend time in my hometown of Greenville, SC. To help me ground and center myself during this time, I began daily walks around my neighborhood, observing my surroundings, taking at the moment, and recalibrating my direction. There was so much sadness in the world, genuine sadness, real catastrophe, uncertainty. Despite this, my sensory experience was intense and visceral. I explored the color and light around me through buoyant paintings and drawings of floral bouquets. The bouquets came to life, like characters in a play, laughing with me, keeping me company. Amid such intense solitude and uncertainty, they gave me life, hope, and comfort. The aspect of repetition is essential in this process. The work becomes a meditation, and the fulfillment of this meditation comes through the routine and the daily commitment. ” – Fotini Christophillis
